College History

The history of Tak Ming College could be traced back to the year of 1931 when Tak Ming Educational Foundation was founded in Canton, China to offer both primary and secondary education in the city. The name "Tak Ming" was adopted to commemorate our National Father Dr. SUN Yet-sen who used this name during his school days in China.

During the year 1949, many Chinese refugees and educators migrated into Hong Kong. There was only one university by that time in the Colony with limited resources to meet the rapidly increased educational needs. A number of Anglo-English educational institutions were set up in response to the social requirements. Tak Ming began to operate in Hong Kong to offer primary, secondary and further education. By 1961, Tak Ming extended into post-secondary education, and was registered under the Education Ordinance (Chapter 279 of Hong Kong Laws) approved by the Director of Education, Hong Kong Government to offer post-secondary courses of studies. In May 1962, Hong Kong Tak Ming College was further granted official accreditation by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China as a degree granting institution under the Education Ordinance of the Republic of China.

In February 1988, Hong Kong Tak Ming College was incorporated as a non-profit making educational institution under the Companies Ordinance of Hong Kong Laws.

德明教育機構可追溯至1931年，由陳故董事長伯南將軍，鑑於香港僑民教育，其制度與目的，多未符合我國要求，乃與胡漢民，林雲陔二位先生會商，決定創辦德明教育院校，服務群眾。並用　國父嘉名　德明為校名，以國父誕辰，十一月十二日為校慶，以茲紀念。並以胡漢民先生墨寶『篤信好學』為校訓。以期學生篤信我國故有倫理道德思想，努力求學。

1949年，大陸易手，大批國民移居香港，當時香港植民地政府只有一間大學，不足以滿足大量求學人士需要，德明教育機構於是在旺角洗衣街及界限街、港島灣仔、澳門、台灣等地擴建德明中學及大專學院。

現時尚在運作有香港德明學院，台灣德明財經大學。基於香港教育法規之限制，香港德明學院是以香港德明書院名義註冊。學生修畢以香港德明書院之課程並符合中華民國教育部法規要求，學生可另行申請由教育部頒發學位証書。

1988年德明教育機構在香港依法註冊為一所非牟利專業教育團體。
